Choosing the Right Containers
At Base 3 Farms, we use a variety of containers for growing, but our favorite for moringa is a small 4-inch container with good drainage holes. These containers make replanting your trees a breeze.
Preparing the Soil
Start by preparing your soil mixture. We use a blend of sandy loam and compost. To improve drainage, add perlite to the mix. Just a sprinkle is enough; you don't want to overdo it. Mix the soil thoroughly, ensuring the perlite is evenly distributed.
Planting Moringa Seeds
Once your soil mixture is ready, fill your chosen containers with it. Avoid packing the soil down too tightly; a gentle shake will help even things out. Using your finger, create a small indentation in the soil, no deeper than an inch. Now, it's time to plant your moringa seeds. Simply place them into the indentations and cover them up. There's no need to remove the outer shell of the seed; it can be planted as is.
Watering Your Seeds
Give your moringa seeds a good drink of filtered water. Pour water into the bottom of the tray and let the soil soak it up from the bottom. This ensures thorough watering without disturbing the seeds.
Providing Light and Warmth
Since moringa is a tropical tree, it thrives in warm, sunny conditions. If you're growing indoors, make sure to provide ample light. Position your planted trays under a grow light where they can soak up sunlight all day long.
Monitoring Growth
Now that your moringa seeds are planted and watered, all that's left to do is watch them grow. Keep an eye on the soil moisture levels and adjust watering as needed. In a few weeks, you should start to see your moringa seedlings emerge.
